my maths prove it

this is my maths goal: say the number before and after in the range if 0-1000,000

this is the start of my goal with mrs smith.

then I carried on working with Mrs T over a few days to practise the next level.  The trickiest part was the before part and realising only to change the ones column, not the rest of the whole number.

My WIT Is Done :)

Hi My WIT is now done yay. We sent emails to Nathan Hill here is what he sent us.

Hi Anna, Taryn, Abbie and Aria
Nice one J  I had a look at the link.  The songs are very catchy and the information is correct.  It does show pictures of caterpillars after a section on centipedes.

Caterpillars actually only have 6 true legs (they are the larvae of insects) the rest of the leg like structures  - proto legs – are not true legs so caterpillars they are still grouped as insects even though it looks like they have more than 10.
I’m not sure what else you want me to provide feedback on.  This is a chart I refer to sometimes which shows how invertebrates fit in the classification table. It has a lot of other entomology jargon that 7-8 year olds do not need to know. For example echinoderms can simply be called the starfish group.
I hope that helps. Keep up the great work.
Regards

Nathan

Here is what we sent to Mrs Parks and Mrs Mills.

Hello,

what day would be good to come in and share our thing link ( Resource about invertebrate ) to your class or a group of children.
Here is our thing link. ( Resource about invertebrate )
For the links just click the picture.

From Aria, Taryn, and Abbie

Hi ladies
Next week would suit us better - Can we say Wednesday Afternoon please from 2pm.
Thanks
Wendy

Thats fine we will see you then.

Hi Mrs Parks and Mrs Mills
We have thought about the resource and thought after we show them it we might take 4 people out to the bush to find an invertebrate to test it out.
Kind Regards, Abbie, Taryn & Aria

Here is the resource we made hope you enjoy.

When I'm Up To In WIT

Where I'm up to on WIT Dear Mrs Parks and Mrs Mills We are making a scratch quiz for our WIT and the target age is Year 3 and 4. Our WIT is to study invertebrates and make a resource to help year 3 and 4 identify invertebrates from the Frankley school bush. We would like to talk to 2 people in your class to ask these questions and see what they think and to give us some ideas about a helpful resource. What would be a suitable time and day to talk to 2 of the Te Pihinga students. Questions Do You use technology like computers or laptops much in your class? Would a website or something similar be useful to your class? If not what would you recommend us to use? If so Why do you think we should change? Do you know much about invertebrates ( bugs without a backbone)? Does your class struggle identify bugs or invertebrates ( bugs without a backbone)? Has your class looked into invertebrates yet? Are there any people who are already interested in invertebrates? Kind Regards Abbie O, Taryn J and Aria T

My Limerick

Hi this is a limerick story that does not make any sense. I did not make this by myself I did it with someone called Lucia in my class. This is the limerick that we wrote

(8) Once there was a fat stinky goat.

(8) Who wanted to float on a boat.

(5) And saw a big bee.

(5) That was stuck in a tree.

(8) And no one would vote for the goat.

If you did not know why the those syllables where there just clap your hands and see how much syllables are there. Thanks for reading our story Bye

My Information Report

This is my information report about centipedes. I chose to wrote about this invertebrate because we caught three of them as part of our WIT.

What's that Long Insect?

Did you know all centipedes are predators?  Centipedes belong to the class of Chilopoda. The name centipede which means “100 legs” can be somewhat* misleading: centipedes may have anywhere from 15 to 177 pairs of legs.Did you know that my centipede is from Frankley School bush.

Diet
Centipedes can eat a full mouse.  Centipedes are carnivores** and they use venom*** to kill their prey.  The venom comes from glands that open near the first pain of modified**** legs.  Centipedes eat earthworms, spiders, slugs and other animals.
Appearance
Centipedes have long bodies and sometimes short. Centipedes have hard bodies and some have soft bodies.Centipedes occur in several***** colors and patterns but most common are brown and reddish orange. They range in size from 4 to 152 mm, depending on the species******.
The heads of centipedes have a pair of long and sensitive antennae.
Protection
When centipedes are scared they curl up in a little ball.  All centipedes can hide under soil.  It keeps the centipede protected as it moves from place to place. Centipedes protect their eggs by curling up in a circle.

Centipedes are fascinating creatures that are commonly found in the bush.  They are so tiny to humans but if you are a small invertebrate, watch out because they are poisonous!
